Practise the French Defense

The French Defense (1.e4 e6) is a solid, counterattacking answer to 1.e4. Play Black's moves of the line from memory — 1. e4 e6 — and the trainer plays White's replies; "Play the other side" turns it around.

"Drill all" adds the 212 named lines that continue it, such as French Defense: Normal Variation, French Defense: Knight Variation, French Defense: Advance Variation, French Defense: Exchange Variation, French Defense: Paulsen Variation, French Defense: Advance Variation, Paulsen Attack, French Defense: La Bourdonnais Variation, French Defense: Tarrasch Variation.

Read about the line, its statistics on Lichess and Stockfish's evaluation on the French Defense page, or pick another opening in the opening trainer.
