Practise the Modern Defense
The Modern Defense (1.e4 g6) is a flexible hypermodern reply to 1.e4. Play Black's moves of the line from memory —
1. e4 g6 — and the trainer plays
White's replies; "Play the other side" turns it around.
"Drill all" adds the 44 named lines that continue it, such as Modern Defense: Standard Line, Modern Defense: Standard Defense, Modern Defense: Two Knights Variation, Modern Defense: Three Pawns Attack, Modern Defense: Geller's System, Modern Defense: Mongredien Defense, with Nf3, Modern Defense: Pseudo-Austrian Attack, Modern Defense: Bishop Attack.
Read about the line, its statistics on Lichess and Stockfish's evaluation on the Modern Defense page, or pick another opening in the opening trainer.
