Practise the Philidor Defense: Exchange Variation

The Exchange Variation of the Philidor Defense (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 exd4) is Black's most common answer to 3.d4. Play Black's moves of the line from memory — 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 exd4 — and the trainer plays White's replies; "Play the other side" turns it around.

"Drill all" adds the 8 named lines that continue it, such as Philidor Defense: Morphy Gambit, Philidor Defense: Bird Gambit, Philidor Defense: Larsen Variation, Philidor Defense: Boden Variation, Philidor Defense: Paulsen Attack, Philidor Defense: Berger Variation.

Read about the line, its statistics on Lichess and Stockfish's evaluation on the Philidor Defense: Exchange Variation page, or pick another opening in the opening trainer.
