Practise the Ruy Lopez: Classical Variation

The Classical Variation of the Ruy Lopez (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 Bc5), also called the Cordel Defence, develops Black's king's bishop to its most active square at once. Play Black's moves of the line from memory — 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 Bc5 — and the trainer plays White's replies; "Play the other side" turns it around.

"Drill all" adds the 7 named lines that continue it, such as Ruy Lopez: Classical Variation, Central Variation, Ruy Lopez: Classical Variation, Charousek Variation, Ruy Lopez: Classical Defense, Boden Variation, Ruy Lopez: Classical Variation, Cordel Gambit, Ruy Lopez: Classical Variation, Spanish Wing Gambit, Ruy Lopez: Classical Variation, Konikowski Gambit, Ruy Lopez: Classical Defense, Zaitsev Variation.

Read about the line, its statistics on Lichess and Stockfish's evaluation on the Ruy Lopez: Classical Variation page, or pick another opening in the opening trainer.
