Practise the Horwitz Defense

The Horwitz Defense (1.d4 e6), also called the Franco-Indian Defence, is a flexible reply to 1.d4. Play Black's moves of the line from memory — 1. d4 e6 — and the trainer plays White's replies; "Play the other side" turns it around.

"Drill all" adds the 10 named lines that continue it, such as Rat Defense: Small Center Defense, English Defense, Kangaroo Defense, Kangaroo Defense: Keres Defense, Transpositional Variation, Queen's Gambit Declined: Alapin Variation, English Defense: Perrin Variation, Benoni Defense: Franco-Sicilian Hybrid, Horwitz Defense: Zilbermints Gambit.

Read about the line, its statistics on Lichess and Stockfish's evaluation on the Horwitz Defense page, or pick another opening in the opening trainer.
